在书写2014年的历史时，需要留意一个几乎被忽视的重大事实：2014年是美国能够号称自己是全球第一大经济体的最后一年。中国经济以拔得头筹之势进入2015年，并很可能长时间执此牛耳，即使不能永久保持。中国已经回到了它在人类历史上大多数时间里所占据的地位。

按：中国世纪已经开始，进英文源流学校还是最好的选择吗？在新加坡，已经没有纯粹的华校，但是仍然有特选学校(传统华校)和老牌精英英校之分。按截分点排名，女校现在是华校(南洋女中)排在第一，第二是MGS(英校，教会学校)，曾经多年位居榜首的RGS被南洋女中超越数年后，今年滑落到第三。男校方面，李光耀的母校RI(老牌英校)仍然是第一，特选学校华中第二。南中与华中是联盟学校，学生直升华中初级学院；RGS与RI是联盟学校，学生直升莱佛士初院。以A水准成绩(大学先修班)排名，莱佛士初院第一，华中初级学院第二。
从传统来看，新加坡英校男校的政治精英多，华校男校则出商界精英。李光耀是莱佛士书院最有名的校友，可以作为政治精英的象征。华中、南中之间刚运营的地铁站名为“陈嘉庚站”，这是商业精英的象征。(华中有李光前图书馆，李光前是陈嘉庚的女婿。南中有爱礼堂，陈爱礼是陈嘉庚长女、李光前夫人。)当然，华中培养出总统王鼎昌，南中培养出部长傅海燕，不过从政者的绝对数量还太少。至于印度人，向来积极学习华文。副总理尚达曼把子女送到特选学校，不足为奇。
