大马人疯狂爱头衔 行动党员谎称遭封爵 笑掉国际大牙
（吉隆坡16日讯）著名政治评论人James Chin指出，马来西亚人是非常迷恋头衔的，但是谎称自己获得博士学位甚至封爵的政治人物，诚信受到考验，无法让人民信赖。
任教于双威莫纳什大学（Monash University）分校的James Chin教授在《大马局内人》发表文章表示，有人说联邦政府和州政府每年封赐200多个拿督（Dato）和丹斯里（Tan Sri），但这需求量可能是上千，由此可见，马来西亚人多么的迷恋头衔还有假学历，包括了政治人物。
他指出，当政治人物利用假学历和自称拥有封衔，这同时也告诉你有关政治人物的品性。在一个全球化的世界里，他们真的认为可以利用假的学历和封衔欺骗大家吗？
“我一般认为这一种有趣的人物，大部分是在执政联盟内，但最近的事件证明我大错特错。最近有两单来自沙巴的案例值得一提。”
James Chin指出第一个案例，是行动党党员在中文报章中刊登全版广告，附上伪造的照片，声称他被英女皇封为爵士（SIR）。当事情被揭发以后，他仍然大言不惭声称自己拥有事件的证据。
另一个更糟糕的案例是沙巴行动党主席，声称自己拥有工商管理的博士学位。后来被揭发他获取学位的美国美联大学（Inter American University，IAU）并不获得美国教育部的认可，但是他依然坚称该学位是合法的，甚至厚颜无耻的展示他的证书。James Chin表示，对于这样一个资深政治人物坚称自己拥有学位的行为是不获得认可的，人们唯有希望他在未来不会当上教育部长。
“或许人们会认为这两个人没什么影响，这件事情也无关痛痒，但是倘若握有假学历或不被承认的学历，是国会里面的议员呢？是否能想象这是多么大的一个笑话，当国际游客到访我国发现我们的代议士都持假学历。是否能想象此事正破坏我国的形象？那位行动党党员伪称被英女皇封为爵士的事件，被英国的权威日报《The Telegraph》报道出来，无疑地也加强了国际上马来西亚能的形象。”
他认为事情关键的问题是，如果身处权利高层的资深政治人物公然撒谎，谎报自己的头衔和学历，他的操守还能被人民信任吗？他还会诚实地执行他身为代议员的工作吗？
最后，James Chin莞尔的表示：“如果你依然无法信服没有得到拿督的头衔，我建议你花3万元向苏禄（Sulu）苏丹取得拿督头衔。或则，你喜欢‘博士’（Dr）的头衔胜于拿督，我强烈建议罗奇维尔大学（rochville university），你将比实际攻读博士学位更节省2千令吉以取得学位。”

JULY 15 — Malaysians are obsessed with titles, just look at the number of awards given out every year. I was told about 200 “Datuk” and “Tan Sri” awards are given out every year by the federal and state governments. This is not anywhere near the demand, which must be in the thousands.
Others try their luck with fake PhDs. What do you do when politicians get involved? We all know the majority of Malaysian politicians are as trustworthy as second-hand Proton dealers, or a maid agent. (Actually, I am insulting second-hand Proton dealers by comparing them with politicians.)
When I see a politician using a fake degree or award, the first thing that comes to my mind is that you cannot get any lower than this. This really tells you something about the character of this politician. In a globalised world, do they honestly think they can get away with a fake PhD or a knighthood?
I used to think that these sorts of funny characters are mostly found in the ruling coalition but recent events suggest I am dead wrong. Two recent cases from Sabah are worth mentioning.
In the first one, a DAP member bought a full-page advertisement in a Chinese newspaper claiming he was knighted by the British Queen. He even had the audacity to fake a photo! When he was exposed, he claimed he was still gathering evidence of the knighthood! This guy has got big balls!
Worse is the case of the DAP chief in Sabah who claims to have a PhD in business administration. Like the fake knight, when exposed, he claimed his PhD is legitimate. He even had the audacity to show his “certificate”.
The problem is that the university that awarded him the PhD, Inter-American University, is not accredited nor recognised by the US Department of Education. For such a senior politician to defend his PhD when it is clear that it is not an accredited one, one can only hope he will never become the minister of higher education in the future.
If you think there is nothing wrong and it is all quite harmless, how about allegations that the second most important person in the Dewan Rakyat is alleged to be using a PhD from an unaccredited university?
There are also allegations about other MPs holding unaccredited PhDs.
Can you imagine the joke among international visitors who visit our Parliament, only to discover that senior MPs are using fake PhDs? Can you imagine the damage done to the reputation of the country? The story of the fake knighthood appeared in The Telegraph, one of the leading British dailys, no doubt reinforcing Malaysia’s reputation overseas as Bolehland.
The bottom line is this: if a senior politician in power blatantly lies about his qualifications and awards, do you honesty think he will behave with integrity in public office?
If you are still not convinced that it is wrong to use a fake title, I would like to introduce you to the easiest place to get a “Datuk” title — from the Sultan of Sulu. I understand that it is value-for-money at only RM30,000!
Or if you prefer a “Dr” after your “Datuk”, I highly recommend Rochville University. It will set you back by about RM2,000, a lot cheaper than doing a real PhD.
